The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in conjunction with International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) held a 3-day training course for its members and senior staff from Tuesday, 7th to Thursday, 9th June, 2016.
The training aimed at exposing participants to the guidelines and practices required for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections.
It was also directed towards producing competent trainers amongst the participants, capable of undertaking some training responsibilities of the Commission, especially as it relates the discharge of election duties.
The 3-day course had a range of subjects that would empower electoral officials of an Election Management Body such as AKISIEC to conduct free, fair, credible elections within the ambit of relevant legal framework.
These courses include electoral systems, free and fair elections, voter education and operational and logistics planning amongst others.
It was a timely course and very useful forum for assessing the conduct of past elections in view of making necessary input for adjustments and improvements in the conduct of future elections.
At the end of the training, participants were presented certificates of partipation by IFES.
